Harvest Days

I love everything about this harvest time of year—the still-warm sun; the yellow/orange/red palette of leaf colors; sweet cider and crisp-again apples; the freshness in the air; cornstalks and pumpkins and gourds (oh my!); the cool nights that invite us to, once again, snuggle under blankets.  I eat it up...and maybe that's exactly why this simple verse by Alice C. Henderson so encapsulates this time of year.  Happy Autumn!

The Harvest

The silver rain, the shining sun
The fields where scarlet poppies run
And all the ripples of the wheat
Are in the bread that I do eat

So when I sit for every meal
And say a grace, I always feel
That I am eating rain and sun
And fields where scarlet poppies run.
