Obama Land
I was in New York City last week and it appeared that all 8 million New Yorkers were going to vote for Obama - if t-shirts, hats, buttons, bags are an indication of voting preferences. Not surprising. Anyone living in the New York metropolitan area would be classified an "Eastern elitist intellectual" by the Republican party - so of course they would vote Democrat.
I walked into a store in Soho and the owner, a young woman, was manning the counter. I picked up a plastic glass with "Obama Biden 2008" printed in blue on it. They were only $3.00 each and I decided to purchase 4 of them for friends back home. As I walked up to the counter to pay the shopkeeper said, " I just couldn't put her name on it." At that, I looked at the glasses with red print - "McCain 2008". Sure enough Sarah Palin's name had been intentionally omitted.
Then the shopkeeper said, " Oh. I'll have to add your purchases to the chart." It turns out she was keeping a tally of the number of glasses that were selling - red versus blue. I asked, "Who is ahead?" "Obama with 64 and McCain with 9, but they were purchased by some Japanese tourists!" She marked my 4 purchases on her charts - one hanging by the shelf with the glasses and a copy taped to the front window of her shop for the whole world to see.
If only the election was so easily determined...
