Hot Enough For Ya'???
When I looked outside very early this morning the window had droplets of water running down the pane. The grass was wet, the air was thick and the sun was shining. My yard looked like a steam bath. Yes, it's July and the temperature has been in the high 80's to low 90's for over a week with humidity near 100%. Yes sirree! This is my kind of weather!
Perhaps summer is my favorite season because it is the most laid back. It is the time to literally kick off your shoes, jump in the water, have picnics. Or maybe I like summer because school is out, I go on vacation, days are long. I'm a leo and my birthday is July 31st so maybe I always look forward to summer because my birthday is right smack dab in the middle of it.
When I was young summer meant county fairs, amusement parks, taking a drive after dinner for ice cream. Now it means swimming at the pond, great tomatoes and corn, and day trips to Tanglewood, Brimfield, Newburyport, and Gloucester. Plus a trip to Santa Fe to see my parents, a trip to Ohio to visit my hometown, another trip perhaps to a place unknown.
Summer energizes me. All those whiners and complainers can rant about the heat and humidity; their lethargy and heavy breathing. But, not me. I am most active in the summer. I love to swim and bike. I like to explore the woods and go to the park. Give me warm weather and you will find me outside as much as possible.
I also stay up later and accomplish more in hot weather. I even like to clean my house when it's hot. I cleaned my refrigerator yesterday and today I am going to tackle the kitchen cabinets.
And, the thunderstorms! I can't leave out the thunderstorms! Give me a good old thunderstorm with lightning and thunder and I'm happy as a clam - as long as I am inside and out of harm's way. And, there's nothing as fresh as the air right after a good thunderstorm!
Ah, summer, gotta love it!
Real Estate Hint #13 - Although I work hard at my job as a Realtor, there are times that I like to enjoy some time off. This is a bit difficult when you are "on call" to show houses 365 days a year. Now that I have been in the business for 14 years, I do put my foot down and take some time off - not much - but some. I especially take time off in the summer which is my favorite season (see above). I found early in my career that there are folks that like to look at houses although they have little motivation to purchase. These folks especially like to look at houses in the summer when they have more free time, the weather is good, evenings are light. Early in my career I found myself trudging around in the late afternoons and early evenings with "lookers". I resented this time because I would rather have been swimming, biking, or barbecuing. So, now, I am very careful about who I take out in the summer. I closely screen these warm weather customers. I will gladly work with folks who I know are serious about buying a home, but if I smell a "just like to get out on a summer day and look at houses " kind of person I try to show them houses on my schedule - not theirs.
