Go Blue
The color of the ocean, of hydrangeas, of the sky, of denim, of tranquility.
Blue has always been my favorite color.
Obama, the presidential candidate who may offer a change from corrupt, self-serving politicians who can't ever truly represent America because the majority of Americans are anything but corrupt and self-serving, is now poised to capture the democratic nod of confidence from his supporters in the Blue States.
Environmentalists are joining to focus on conservation and stewardship of the dwindling supply of fresh water, making Blue the new Green. Think spokesperson Jennifer Aniston talking about her three-minute showers, lawn watering restrictions that are becoming mandatory year-round, and replacing throw away plastic water bottles with stainless steel reusable ones. (Writers wanting a jump on a "hot" topic—buzz is agents are looking for Blue books.) Turn off that water while you brush your teeth!!
And research teams are discovering more Blue Zones — areas like Loma Linda, California; Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; and Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica — where people live longer than anyone else. (National Geographic's Dan Buettner shares his team's discoveries in in The Blue Zone: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who've Lived the Longest.) The Costa Rican centenarians researched share these practices: have a strong sense of purpose, drink hard water high in calcium, keep a focus on the family, eat a light dinner, maintain social networks, continue to work hard, get sensible sun (!), and embrace a common (spiritual) history.
Blue is my favorite color.
