I'm An Addict!

.

I admit it! I'm an addict! I've been an addict since I was seven years old!  And I can't stop no matter how silly and stupid it is to continue!!!

I started reading movie magazines when I was in second grade -  I put down Dick and Jane and picked up "Photoplay" and "Silver Screen". It was the 50's and  Hedda Hopper  was reporting from her perch in the Hollywood Hills.  The first story I followed with more than casual interest was the breakup of the marriage of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.  I even cut out the photos of Eddie and Debbie and glued, yes glued, them to the wall over my bed where I could look at them each night before I fell asleep.  I thought they were wonderful!  I was crushed when Eddie left Debbie for Liz.  And secretly thrilled when Richard Burton booted Eddie out of the marriage.   That Eddie - what a simpering fool!

Call me weird; call me precocious, but I really did care about Debbie and Eddie and Liz and Richard. And in over 50 years I haven't stopped caring!

All these years - all the stars!  I followed Burt Reynolds dating Dinah Shore. Remember that strange alliance? And, Sonny and Cher's breakup.  I watched the seemingly perfect marriage of Paul and Linda McCartney until her tragic death tore them apart - and allowed that awful Heather Mills to enter the scene - and recently leave it!  I watched the naughty children of Princess Grace frolic on the beaches of their golden kingdom and thought how she must be turning over in her grave.   I stored away bits and pieces of more glamourous lives than mine; lives I didn't  actually envy but  found fascinating and intriguing and somehow worth the effort for me to study in  more detail than any academic subject I took in school.

"Silver Screen" and "Photoplay" are long gone and my magazne of choice is now "People." Do I admit this in public?  Not until now! Once a week I sit down on my couch with my dog curled up at my toes and read "People" magazine from cover to cover.  It is  a special time; a time I enjoy all by myself - no interruptions, no phone calls, no eating or chewing; just me and my stars.

Is "People" perfect? No, but it's the best around. I am not happy with all the stories about Paris and Britney, K-Fed and Nicole.  They are too young; have no talent; and have no Hollywood class.   Give me a good story about Angie Dickinson (which they did a few weeks ago); Ann-Margaret (where is she? what is she working on?); a retrospect of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee.  Bring me up to date on Liz's love life!  I'm here. I'm waiting. I can never get enough.  I'm an addict!

Real Estate Tip #6  -  Let's talk about Sunday Open Houses for a minute.  Sunday Open Houses are usually 2 hour slots of time in the middle of the afternoon when the listing broker opens the door to the  House for Sale to all who want to view it.  It is the bane of real estate brokers!  I would say that an offer is  rarely made by an attendee at an Open House.  Serious buyers work with a real estate broker and that broker will show them any house that they might consider buying.  Open Houses are a tradition that continues for the sake of the seller.  Sellers think that they have to open their houses to the public, but the truth is that a house will sell without any Sunday Open Houses.

another LOL. My name is Donna and I too am an addict. My habit started later in life but is equally if not stronger than yours. I not only read People; I read Us, Life&Style, and OK. They all say pretty much the same thing so buying more than one is a waste of money. I pick up the mags every Friday nite and enjoy the best mindless activity (next to TV) that money can buy.
